We had the chance to chat with Mara, Occupational Therapist (OT) working in our Mental Health and Substance Use program
Here’s what she had to say about the impactful work she gets to do every day…
“I love connecting with the youth and young adults in our program. I love that my job allows me to meet my clients where they are at in their recovery, to then take the time to learn about their goals, and continue supporting them in achieving those goals. It’s truly a privilege to work alongside our clients in helping to create a life that is meaningful to them.
Here at Fraser Health, everyone gives 100% each day, and I am honoured to work amongst kind, intelligent and compassionate people. We work hard to collaborate with each other and value each other’s expertise and unique knowledge to strive for excellent client care.”
We asked Mara how her leaders and resources provided help her to feel taken care of and supported at Fraser Health.
“I have felt well supported since day one. My managers and coordinators support me in my continuing education, they schedule routine check-ins, and always ensure we use our breaks and vacation time.
Within my first year of working with Fraser Health, I have deepened my knowledge in various practice areas, as well as becoming more confident in my practice skills. I am learning the ins and outs of the healthcare system so I can work within it to best serve my clients.”
Mara lives in Abbotsford, and recently relocated from Toronto.
“I moved from Toronto to Abbotsford around a year ago. I’m finding Abbotsford to be a very tightly-knit community! It’s really cool to feel right-at-home in a new city. I love living amongst the mountains and being close to so many beautiful national and provincial parks to go hiking and camping!”
Outside of work, Mara likes to care for her wellbeing by keeping a regular exercise routine, spending quality time with her dog and partner, visiting home on her vacation time and engaging in activities that bring her joy outside of work.
