The City of Langley and Township of Langley are two bordering municipalities grown together, east of the city of Surrey and centrally located between the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley economic regions. Located on the south side of the Fraser river with easy access to major highways, and approximately 45 minutes (47 km) from Vancouver’s city centre, Langley also borders Washington state, USA to the south.
The City of Langley alone has a population of only 27,000. Including the Township of Langley and its populous rural suburban neighbourhoods, the entire Langley area is home to nearly 160,000 people. Langley, and its inclusive communities, have the fastest growing population in the Lower Mainland and Greater Vancouver areas.
Langley is well known for farming, agriculture and food production. While more recently, the industrial and manufacturing sectors are increasingly moving out to the Langley areas from the city. Land development (construction), air transportation, education, film/television, retail and health care are also well-established and thriving industries.
The luxury of being two places (two municipalities) at once is that there are plenty of options from the bustling urban centre to an escape at a tranquil equestrian center. Visit Fort Langley, the Birthplace of British Columbia, explore numerous walking and biking trails throughout the city, visit the Greater Vancouver Zoo, or attend a Vancouver Giant’s game at the Langley Events Centre.
Langley City and the Township of Langley have a number of public and private schools from kindergarten through to grade 12.
Langley is home to two degree-granting institutions, Trinity Western University and Kwantlen Polytechnic University, and a number of continuing education and workplace skills training programs.
