I’m a social worker and case manager overseeing the set-up and delivery of home and facility-based services to adults with moderate to severe brain injuries in the Fraser Health region. These include life-skill workers, counselling services, community support home care and facility care. Not to mention, delivering social work services as needed. This role has given me the opportunity to become skilled at delivering compassionate care to those who need it the most.
What I enjoy most about my career is being a part of a really caring, supportive team and seeing the impact our program has for our clients. We work in a multidisciplinary team environment, and everyone is very welcoming, approachable and knowledgeable, which offers lots of learning opportunities. Our team also holds regular social activities – for those who are more social, this is great opportunity to connect and have fun!
I have been fortunate enough to be a part of various projects to enhance our services over the years. There is always room to grow and opportunities to try new things. Recently, we opened a facility in Surrey to help our clients with multiple health care challenges. This has helped to reduce barriers and provide individuals with the services they need to stay healthy and safe while they navigate the joys and challenges of their lives.
It can take time to get comfortable in this role, but the team is always there to mentor and offer the information to learn as needed. Working in health care can have its challenges at times given the complex cases. However, Fraser Health offers a lot of support to assist with this. I started out with little knowledge and skill working with adults with acquired brain injuries. I am grateful for the great clinicians and leaders I’ve connected with along the way. They are compassionate, skilled, and dedicated to providing our client’s the best care possible with the resources we offer.
The clinical coordinators and manager at acquired brain injury services have an open-door policy and are always willing to help where needed. We meet weekly to discuss new clients and any barriers we are facing which helps to foster the positive and supportive work environment.
Fraser Health offers good benefits for vacation time and health insurance benefits like registered massage therapy are great as well. If you’re looking for interesting work with a diverse population on a great team, come join us!
Outside of work, I enjoy the beautiful outdoors, the ocean, being close to loved ones and great restaurants – there’s lots to do in the lower mainland. I enjoy hiking, running, yoga, meditating, socializing, eating healthy, and connecting with family.
Fraser Health is the heart of health care for over two million people in 20 diverse communities from Burnaby to Boston Bar on the traditional, ancestral and unceded lands of the Coast Salish and Nlaka’pamux Nations and is home to 32 First Nations within the Fraser Salish region.
