We had the opportunity to meet up with Lovelyn, Registered Nurse, to hear about her experience working on the Medicine and Telemetry Unit at Delta Hospital.
“I love patient/family-centered care,” when we asked her what she loves most about her career. “I love to involve and interact with patients who are in my care, and their families. I love to restore hope and a positive environment with my peers, patients and their families. And, I have the privilege to support new nurses, students, new staff and other colleagues.”
“In the three years I have worked in Medicine/Telemetry at Delta Hospital, I have grown tremendously – both personally and professionally. I have completed a telemetry course which has given me the opportunity to work with cardiac patients. I have also been able to consolidate many nursing skills and discovered some hidden talents, like being a good leader, and nursing advocate for my patients and their families.”
If you’re considering a similar career or position in nursing, here’s some advice from Lovelyn.
“If you are an internationally educated nurse, newly graduated, or coming from another health authority, Delta Hospital is the perfect site. Our Medicine/Telemetry interdisciplinary team is made up of knowledgeable, family-oriented, approachable, supportive and compassionate physicians, nurses, health care assistants, occupational and physiotherapists, respiratory therapists, social workers, and dietitians. The team at Delta Hospital is like a second family to me.

We asked Lovelyn how she is being taken care of and supported at Fraser Health. “I am encouraged to use my vacation days to spend with my family. My manager and team are supportive and caring and often have team building activates in our unit. They provide me with support where I need it.”
Lovelyn lives in Surrey and works in the neighbouring community of Delta. “I love the nature, going out for walks on my days off. The Surrey-Delta region gives me the chance to benefit from many outdoor parks and trails. I love shopping and enjoy exploring all the beautiful malls in the region. I also love the cultural and natural diversity of the Surrey and Delta areas. They communities are calm, quiet and growing quickly.”
Outside of work, you’ll find Lovelyn spending quality time with her kids and husband, listening to music, exercising, dancing, going for walks, meditating, and shopping.
