Career tip

“Network with confidence! Making meaningful connections with people in the same field or industry can help you discover more opportunities and gain insight into your desired career path. I like to say don’t be shy because you never know who you may encounter – a networking event could potentially lead you to your dream job.”

Meet Jessica

Jessica joined Fraser Health to make a positive impact in the community she lives and plays in. She says this role gave her the opportunity to do exactly that. She loves connecting with people and learning about their personal journeys, while supporting them through the process of recruitment.

Additional tips Jessica shares to excel your career growth:

  • Seek mentors: Find a mentor or coach who can provide guidance, advice and support alongside your professional development journey.
  • Continuous learning: Take the opportunity and seek to learn new roles, acquire new skills, meet new people and develop unknown talents.
  • Prioritize work-life balance: Maintaining a healthy balance between work and personal time is essential for long-term career success and personal well-being.
  • Ask questions: Use open-ended questions to understand and connect with others, this will help you stand out in an interview and provide clarity on assignments.
  • Embrace feedback: Take feedback constructively, whether it’s positive or negative, this will allow you to become more self-aware and strengthen your skillsets.
  • Develop a professional network: Connect with purpose, begin by reaching out to your contacts on platforms like LinkedIn or your colleagues within the workplace by holding coffee chats to cultivate meaningful relationships.

In her personal time, Jessica loves staying active by exploring all the beautiful trails B.C. has to offer, paddle boarding in the warmer months and enjoying a good book by the fire in the colder months. She also loves to travel and spend quality time with loved ones.

Jessica is grateful to live and work on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded shared territories of the Squamish, Musqueam and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations and is thankful for their stewardship of this land.
