I’m a neurophysiology technologist supervisor working at the Jim Pattison Outpatient Care and Surgery Centre and Surrey Memorial Hospital. What I love most about my career is the variety of testing I provide. Electroencephalograms (EEGs) look at the function of the brain and Electromyography (EMG) assesses the function of the nerves. This means we get a mix of central and peripheral nervous system cases affecting a wide range of people. It keeps us on our toes and enables us to consistently learn something new.

At Fraser Health, we are encouraged to pursue ongoing education which has increased my confidence in performing and interpreting neurophysiological tests, as well as general knowledge in medicine. Stepping into the supervisor role has taught me new leadership skills and some nuances of the health care system that has helped me navigate patient-related cases.

I encourage anyone new in this field of work to not be afraid to ask for help! The technologist team checks in with each other to make sure our workloads are manageable and is always ready to support and jump in when needed. We coordinate all of our efforts to ensure everything gets done so we can provide the best patient care. A lot of what we do benefits from teamwork.

This is the most beautiful place to live! My coworkers and I love hiking the local mountains, swimming in the lakes and ocean, taking trips to Vancouver Island or the Okanagan. We frequently take walks or runs together around Green Timbers Lake on our lunch breaks.

I enjoy doing daily exercises and have meaningful downtime. I make sure to prioritize time with my loved ones and spend some time outside every day.
