“The Forensic Nursing team is a small but mighty team that works fairly independently on an on-call basis,” shares Christina, Coordinator, Forensic Nursing at Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre.
“Being surrounded and feeling supported by my amazing co-workers within a great team atmosphere is something that makes me most proud to work at Fraser Health.
“Coming from nursing with [another health authority], the transition to forensic and emergency nursing [has been] an amazing journey. After working two years in both fields while also working on graduate work, I have moved into a coordinator position with the Forensic Nursing Service at Fraser Health. We currently have six trained pediatric nurse examiners, which is the most of any forensic program in British Columbia!
“Many of the nurses [on our team] have other positions as well, but have made an additional commitment to helping those affected by the trauma of violence and sexual assaults.
“If you are looking to make a difference, want to be able to provide one-on-one care to victims of traumatic experiences, and find the science of forensics interesting, [this area of nursing] might be a good fit for you.”
