Over the 17 years working at Fraser Health, I have felt supported in my learning and career growth by its vast mentorship and education pathways. I started at Fraser Health as an employed student nurse, worked as a bedside registered nurse (RN) and have since had the opportunity to be in various leadership roles as a patient care coordinator, project leader, clinical nurse educator, professional practice, site leader, peer immunizer and now as a clinical operations manager.
Working in my clinical operations manager role at Burnaby Hospital, I oversee three areas in my portfolio: the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), cardiac telemetry and respiratory therapy. I also provide relief coverage for the Emergency Department and cardiac clinics.
What I love most about my career is being able to support the people who provide direct care to patients in an acute setting. I enjoy leading teams and working with a diverse group of physicians, nurses, allied health and clinical support staff.
Our teams work very hard and strive to ensure optimal patient experience, safety and outcomes. It is equally important to me as a manager that everyone on our team is supported to do their best work. I see how hard individuals work every day to provide the care they do and it inspires me to work just as hard to support to them.
It’s been about six months since the roll out of our Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) Program in the ICU. This program has enabled Burnaby residents to stay in their home communities, prevent transfers of unstable patients to tertiary ICUs and overall enhance our team’s skills and competencies. I am so proud to be able to lead and be a part of a team that makes a positive difference in so many ways.
Because I have held many roles within the organization and have a pretty broad perspective of our health system, I would encourage anyone to come to Fraser Health because it is a caring, connected, inclusive and innovative organization to work in. Our leaders at Fraser Health value psychological health and safety, peer support and listening to the perspective of those working in direct-patient care capacities.
Living in the Fraser Health region, every community is accessible to beautiful spaces to enjoy the outdoors. I love running, hiking, and trips to the beach. It doesn’t take long to get to where you want to go – everything is very central.
Fraser Health is the heart of health care for over two million people in 20 diverse communities from Burnaby to Boston Bar on the traditional, ancestral and unceded lands of the Coast Salish and Nlaka’pamux Nations and is home to 32 First Nations within the Fraser Salish region.
Our hospital and community-based services are delivered by a team of 48,000+ staff, medical staff and volunteers dedicated to serving our patients, families and communities.
