Meet Rahnuma Khatoon, Medical Device Reprocessing Technician (MDRT) at Burnaby Hospital (BH).
Recently, Rahnuma provided preceptorship to a MDR student that needed practicum hours to complete education training to obtain certification. With the preceptorship support, the MDRT student was successful in completing their certification and took a vacant position in the MDR.
“My role as an MDRT requires me to demonstrate responsibility, accountability, use of critical thinking and act with initiative under pressure,” shares Rahnuma.
“The journey of this role [as a preceptor] required my generosity of time, empathy, a willingness to share knowledge, and an enthusiasm for teaching.
“The MDR is a small department in the hospital, but I like how it makes such a huge impact. I am passionate about working as part of a health care team that values patient care, and value having the ability to work with people from different backgrounds and cultures.”
Rahnuma continues to grow her leadership skills and has accepted an interim MDR Supervisor role at Burnaby Hospital to support the team and the important work done in the department.
