Meet Maggie and her teammate, Nikita. Maggie is a pharmacist coordinator for antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) working at Royal Columbian and Eagle Ridge Hospitals. She has worked with Fraser Health since 2012 and her main roles include reviewing prescribed antibiotics to ensure patient safety, doing quality improvement projects and educating students, peers and prescribers on antimicrobial stewardship.
Maggie is happy to be able to collaborate in her role with a large multidisciplinary team of clinical pharmacists, nurse educators and physicians.
“We work closely together to tackle challenging infectious disease cases and regional projects,” she says, “and we were recently able to increase the size of our AMS team at Burnaby Hospital and Royal Columbian Hospital. The extra support allows me to focus on other regional initiatives.”
For her own personal and professional growth, Maggie feels she has learned more about quality improvement and implementation sciences through various projects that she participated in at Fraser Health.
Her advice to those considering a similar position, or considering employment with Fraser Health or as part of the Pharmacy Services team in the Lower Mainland, “Take advantage of courses offered by Fraser Health and keep learning!”
