“What I love most about my career are all the opportunities that nursing has provided to me. I have been able to work in a variety of different areas such as Cardiac Surgical Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Chilliwack General Hospital ICU, and in my current role at Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre (ARHCC) ICU. I chose this career as I love the team dynamic, problem solving, and the variety of opportunities I have such as transporting patients to a higher level of care or working with ICU patients at beside.
The ARHCC ICU team could not be more amazing. It could be extremely busy with a high level of acuity and I know we all have each other’s back. The team is always working on different quality improvement projects such as furthering their staff’s education. Everyone here is incredibly hard working and welcoming as they’ve invited me into their community with open arms.
Working at Fraser Health, I’ve been able to prioritize myself and manage my own self-care so I can be the best I can be in my career. It is so important to treat each individual with dignity and respect while providing safe and ethical care, no matter your own medical or personal background.
If you would like to come and work in the critical care environment so you can follow your dreams, I would suggest doing a shadow shift to see if critical care is for you. The program will allow you to further develop your critical thinking skills, in addition, you will be forever learning and able to help guide families and patients through some of the toughest times in their lives.
In my free time, I love all of the hiking, fishing, and camping that is in and around the Chilliwack area. Having grown up in Chilliwack and living in Edmonton for six years prior made me appreciate the Fraser Valley so much more with all the outdoor activities it has to offer.”
