“I love working one-on-one with clients and their families to help achieve their goals. Seeing their progression gives me fulfillment and makes me happy that I have helped in some way. I also love meeting new people such as clients, their families and colleagues.
What makes our team so special is that we try to see clients within 24-48 hours from discharge from Surrey Memorial Hospital. It is more intensive rehab at home as we want our clients to reach their goals as soon as possible. We have seen many of our clients reach their goals [in six to 12 weeks] and are doing even more than what they thought they could do.
As a new physiotherapist, I have grown in many ways. Coming into this job, I was not as confident in assessing clients on my own. But as the weeks went by, I learned that I am capable of doing work on my own and, doing it well. I have also learned to communicate better with my co-workers and clients.
If you’re considering a similar career, it is a great opportunity to work with others who can help support you and offer mentorship.”
Marie is originally from the Philippines and now resides in the Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows area. “Everything in the region where I live and work is accessible and easy to get to, like malls and good restaurants. I also love that there are so many parks, trails and lakes that I can go to with my dog, Booch. I like that Maple Ridge still gives the small town feel, yet not too far away.
Outside of work, you can find Marie going for long strolls with her dog. “I also like de-stressing by doing at-home workouts, talking with friends, eating, sleeping and cooking.”
